Hospital incorrectly gave 13 patients the all-clear for bowel cancer

Thirteen people who received colonoscopies in Wexford Hospital were incorrectly given the all clear.

The patients were participating in Bowelscreen, the national bowel screening programme for people aged 60-69.  The mis-diagnosis was discovered following a recall of 615 patients at Wexford Hospital in 2013 and 2014. The recall of patients was prompted by Bowelscreen following the reporting of two cases of cancer between the regular two year screening gap.

Out of the thirteen patients, six are reportedly from Wexford and seven are from Carlow and Kilkenny.
